Successful Living Through Fear
Got a question for you. Are there things that you just wouldn’t do that would possibly lead to a different road of successful living? Let me be more specific. If you’re scared of public speaking, would you be a candidate for actually doing it?
That’s kind of a trick question. The answer is ‘YES’. You are definitely a candidate for public speaking – or for anything you fear. In fact, I encourage you to master what you are afraid of.
I personally think that 95% of our culture lets fear dictate the outcome of their life. Hypothetically, what if you thought about all the things that you are actually afraid of. I mean you really spent about 3 days concentrating on things that you are really queezy about doing. It could be sales. It could be speaking. It could be negotiating. It could be confrontation (not all confrontation is negative). It could be anything depending on who you are.
If you mastered your fear, how much more powerful would you be to your company? How much more could you empower your family? How much more power would you possess to accomplish your dreams if you could just master a few of your fears?
CHALLENGE:
1. For the next 3 days, ask yourself a question each morning. Ask yourself, “What am I afraid to do?” During the next three days, your subconscious will answer that question during the day or while your trying to go to sleep at night. Take note of those things as they come to you.
2. Make a list of your fears for the next 3 days.
3. Prioritize those fears in order of least fearful to the greatest fear.
4. Under your lowest fear, write the steps you could take – if you wanted to – in your world, in your life, in your day to day routine that you can take advantage of to conquer that fear. Don’t worry about the other fears right now. The only fear that exist is the lowest fear. If you’re afraid of speaking, find a toastmasters club and join. This will be a great supportive group that will do everything in their power to make sure you succeed.
After you conquer that first fear, scratch it off your list and move up to the next one and continue the process until you are virtually fearless. You’ll find that it gets easier with each fear you conquer. You’ll start to realize that you CAN succeed at what you put your mind to.
Fear can be a stumbling block – if you let it.
Don’t let it!
Blessings,
Mark Thompson
