This issue of The
Forward-Living Letter is dedicated to my
brother in law, Mike Randolph. Mike was in Tower 2 of The
World Trade Center two years ago today. He survived the
hell within those buildings. Mike escaped before they
collapsed to the earth.
We love you Mike.

MAN
OF HONOR
|
On the morning of September 11, 2001, life was an everyday occurrence for the average American. We woke up in the morning.
We got ourselves and our children ready. We shipped our family off to school and to the office. We went to work. We were busy as ever and never would have been ready for what was about to take place.
Early that morning a
jet airliner flew into The World Trade
Center. Everyone thought it was a fluke, an accident. It
wasn’t.
Several minutes later, another jet did the same thing into the remaining tower.
A good man was in
that second tower. His name is Mike Randolph. He’s my wife’s
brother. He was there for training for a very prominent brokerage firm
he works for. When the first tower was hit, those in the second tower
were instructed to evacuate.
Shortly after those
instructions, an announcement came on
stating to go back to their respective floors and businesses.
Mike decided he was not going to listen to the voice on the
speaker.
He continued his
downward journey in the stairwell. . . and it’s a
good thing. If Mike would have listened to the “go back” directions,
he would not be here with us today. When reached the 22nd floor, the
plane crashed and exploded into his tower.
Thankfully, Mike was far enough down that he wasn’t physically hurt. But I can tell you he was extremely frightened.
He thought he was going to die. He never thought he would reach the ground.
By his acclaim, the building was rocking at least one foot side to side. That coupled with tons of pressure of bodies pressing down on him while trying to walk down stairs was almost impossible. There were people who needed help physically, emotionally and especially spiritually. Mike aided when he could through all the commotion and chaos.
He finally made it to
the ground and out of the building only to look
up and witness what was happening. Plane debris, bodies and ashes
falling from the sky will be burned in his memory forever.
Many prayers have gone up for Mike and the families who are involved in this tragic and destructive attack. On this day let’s not forget to continue to send those prayers on their behalf.
Today, Mike is happily married and celebrated his first wedding anniversary on August 31. He and his bride are now expecting their first child, Grant due in November.
Mike is a very successful employee of an extremely prominent financial institution. He is loved by his family and adored by his coworkers. Mike is an extremely thoughtful uncle and one of the hardest workers I’ve ever seen.
But he’s mostly just thoughtful of others and looks to help anyone in anyway he can. Perhaps that’s why he’s still with us.
Mike, we’re blessed to still have you. Thank you for all you do and have done.
You are truly a man of honor.
