YOU KNOW YOU HAD 4 CYLINDERS? [Part IV] |
So far we’ve
address 3 out of the 4 cylinders that make up
4 Cylinder Living. They are:
1. Intellectual
2. Emotional
3. Physical
As I write about this
fourth cylinder, I’m convicted about
its very subject. You see your fourth cylinder is your
spiritual cylinder. It offers a wide array of contributions,
assistance and gifts that are unknown and unseen by the
physical world. Now before you wig out on me, let me
explain.
You see my wife is
about to have a pacemaker implanted into
her chest tomorrow. (By the time you read this, she will
have already had it.) She’s 35 years old. It is necessary due
to a previous procedure that did not go exactly perfect.
Anyway, the permanent hardware that she will be sporting for
the rest of her life is not even the surface of the
potential problem. Right now, her heart is not functioning
at 100%. The cardiologist has said there was an episode of
3rd degree heart block which basically means the top and
bottom chamber are not working together to make the heart an
efficient pump.
This is a problem not
only for her own safety and health.
But, you see, my wife – she’s pregnant. This less than
efficient heart could affect the development of the unborn
child. The pacemaker will correct the heart block and will
also make my wife feel better. However, the procedure may
also harm the development of the unborn child.
There is radiation
used to find the specific places to connect
the pacemaker to various parts of the heart. The radiation is
used in the needed x-rays so the doctors can monitor
everything during the procedure. So it’s a catch 22
situation.
The option to wait
for the pacemaker after the birth was
mentioned, but it would be too dangerous for my wife through
the delivery. I tell you all this because it’s heavy on my
heart. But also because it’s directly related to the fourth
cylinder of 4 Cylinder Living. The fourth cylinder –
spirituality – is probably the most important cylinder.
I saved it for last
because there’s much that I don’t
understand about it, but there is much that is very evident.
First, in relation to my wife and unborn child, I know
beyond a shadow of a doubt that she and the baby will be
fine. I know because of my faith. You see my faith is the
sole foundation of my spiritual nature. My faith is in a
Creator that loves me and protects me.
That’s not to say
that life is always a bed of roses. But
regardless of my circumstances, I know He will always be
there.
Anyway, if you
don’t have your spiritual life in check and
your faith needs a tune up, it’s not too late. It’s never
too late. We can’t run 100% on only 75% of our cylinders.
Take time out of your busy life to concentrate on exercising
your faith.
Here are some
suggestions on how to exercise.
Fill your mind: Read, Listen and watch all that you can that
will have a positive impact on your spiritual life. This
takes effort but it is time that you will find very well
spent. Make it a point to do this for at least 30 days and
let me know the change you experience. I think you’ll want
to continue beyond the 30 day mark.
Find a place to
listen: I do this a lot when I go to bed for
the night. I clear my mind of clouding thoughts and just
listen. I listen for guidance. I listen for blessings. I
listen for anything God wants me to hear. The key is to be
open to listen.
Frequently look: Look
for ways that you have been blessed.
Blessings are overlooked as coincidence too often. When God
wants to bless us and we dismiss it as a superficial
happening – something other than from Him, we give no
appreciation to the Giver.
Don’t miss out on
the blessings of life that shower down on
us continually. I have had to attune my mind to recognize
these blessings. Man! They’re everywhere.
I look at my
children, my friends, my life, my Lord and sigh out of the
blessing I’ve been given.
Please don’t miss
the point of this article. It’s not to
preach or point at you. I merely want to offer another area
in life that is often overlooked. We may feel like we don’t
have enough time to devote to this area or we just may not
know where to go to start.
As far as having the
time, it’s just like anything else.
I’ve found if we really want to do something, it’s amazing
how we find the time to do it. The question is, do you
really want it?
As far as where to
get started, I can offer what I know
works in my life. I’m a Christian and I believe the Bible is
the place to start. It’s full of powerful motivation,
success and real life advice that can be applied to anything
you may run into today.
4 Cylinder Living is
a constant working of 4 different areas
of life. You can run on 3 out of 4 or even 2 out of 4. But
you will not experience the fullness that life has to offer.
We’re put on this earth that we may have abundant life.
Take time to invest
in your spiritual life and the dividends
will be more than you ever imagined. You’ll see.
And please lift up my
wife and unborn child in prayer.
Thank you.
Blessings,
Mark
