"On The Mark" |

Dear Mark, How is it that a ton of people around me seem to advance in certain areas of life and I am not moving anywhere? There seems to be some kind of force field around me keeping me from succeeding? Any insight as to why this happens? Pamela in Tyler, TX Dear Pamela, I know what you mean by feeling like there’s a force field around you keeping you from succeeding. That has happened to me for years. But that was before I had an overhaul on my attitude. There was a period in my life that I became seriously depressed because I couldn’t accomplish what I really

thought I deserved. But what I came to realize was I was depressed because I was totally focused on ME. Now I know you didn’t ask me about depression but I am afraid that is the next step in your series of emotional turmoils. The bottom line is the best way to overcome the spinning wheel syndrome is to start at home. What do I mean by “The Spinning Wheel Syndrome”? Glad you asked. The Spinning Wheel Syndrome is a state of mind first of all. You first have to get past this state of mind. I don’t know specifically what you feel like your spinning your wheels about, Pamela. But I do know that if you focus and never stop pushing and fighting toward your goal, you will eventually reach it. You will find traction. Two more things: |
1. Do not compare yourself with others. They may have a different road to travel than you. Your life is significant in its own right. Live your own life. Don’t try and live any one else’s. 2. Whatever you do, do NOT fall into the victim vacuum. That is the place where every thing is “whoa as me” or “I can’t get a break.” Or “why doesn’t anyone love me?” Basically it is a very severe and chronic case of being a whiner. I would keep pressing on and evaluating my state of mind by asking what would be the first obstacle I needed to overcome. Then overcome it. After that, start the next obstacle. When you start to see progress (and I did say “when”) drop me a line and let me know how it’s going.

Dear Mark, What
is a good book or resource to invest in to broaden one’s mind in the area
of finances? Dear Steve, Glad you’re taking the step to take charge of your money. Did you know that 70% of America lives paycheck to paycheck. What that means is one to two major events would be a serious blow to the average family; causing bankruptcy in many cases. Sure, I would recommend any of Larry Burkett’s resources. I’m a Christian so you’ll find that all of his resources are from a Christian perspective. It’s okay though. It works for anyone who applies it. Congratulations on your victory of your money decision. Pick up the book - Mark
