What Did You Do This Weekend?
This weekend we went down to the
beach. We've been planning it for several weeks. Finally, the
weekend arrived and we packed up some food, some clothes, some
refreshments and hit the road.
Now we live about three hours from the
coast. So we had to prepare so our two and three-year olds would be
entertained long enough to keep from screaming. Anyway, we made our
trip successfully.
We finally arrived. Beach, sun, tan,
pictures of the boys, seafood - oh yeah!! We were about to have
F-U-N!! NOT!
As of this writing right now. We are
on our way back home. And we just got to the beach last night. It's
now 9:30 AM. You see, about 30 minutes from being there last night,
it started storming. We hoped that it would stop by the morning.
After all, the forecast said there was only 30% chance of rain.
So we went to bed for the night and
waited for sunrise. The only thing is, sunrise never came. We woke
up to the brightest and loudest lightening show and thunderstorm
that I've seen in a long time. So, I packed back up in the monsoon.
Whew! I was drenched when we pulled out to leave. But I got a dry
shirt and I'm now warm and dry.
So why am I telling you this?
Well I wanted to continue a thought
based on the last two issues of the Forward-Living Letter.
Think about it. How ruined would your
weekend be if you had just experienced what our family did? Would
you be angry for a couple of weeks about the whole ordeal? Would you
huff and puff about how things like this only happen to you? Would
you blame the whole thing on your bad luck? I mean if it weren't for
bad luck you'd have no luck at all - right?
Let me ask you this. What about your
life investment?
This is a perfect opportunity to grab
some family time. Invest in your life (and your family's) by soaking
up this time you have with them. You have them captive now! I just
got through playing with my three-year old. He was drawing on the
etcha-sketch and showing me what he drew. Of course I raved on and
on about it. He now knows beyond a doubt that he is as talented as
Van Gough.
My two year old slept most of the way
due to being up late and getting up early. So me and my three year
old played mostly. Here's another situation that I'll remember for a
long time. We stopped for a bathroom break and my wife took the
three year old to potty. He was using the potty when the automatic
sensor made the toilet flush. You should have seen my little boys
eyes. They were as big around as saucers!!
He was first terrified then
fascinated. That was his first experience with automatic sensor
plumbing. We got a good laugh out of that.
The point is, we didn't let a little
weather ruin our time together. Take the moments you have and make
them work for you in that situation. If you are blessed to have your
family with you during, soak up the attention.
So now it's about an hour and a half
till we get back home. If it's not raining there, I'll cut the grass
and get some work done. In the morning we'll get up and go to
church. After church we're taking the boys to the zoo.
All in all, it's been a good weekend.
How about yours?
Blessings,
Mark Thompson
